Garden harvest

Fridays are my days to volunteer at Penelope’s Garden.  This week’s harvest was 29 lbs delivered to Birch Community Services!!

The raspberries are all done for the year, the mint bolted in the heat, but the tomatoes and green beans are in full production!  There were even some carrots and a new patch of basil ready.   (I must admit, I couldn’t help myself and snacked on some of the tender beans while harvesting – SO delicious!)

The heat wave, followed by the cool snap in the weather caused the Walla Walla sweet onions to bolt and then fall, so that meant harvest time for them, too.  They smelled unbelievably good.

Next week it looks like lots of peppers, some patty-pans, and maybe even some cucumbers will be added to the wave of tomatoes and green beans to bring in.  Can’t wait!

  • We’ve got some tomatoes and a few peppers… and some herbs we continually pick from for our dinners. I’m still trying to figure out how to “do” a great garden in arid Colorado! 🙂

  • We’re getting lots of herbs now, cukes, some zucchini, and finally finally finally the red and yellow peppers!

    Between my two CSA shares I decided to plant a very modest garden this year, but it’s nice to have a few things.

  • I just saw your comment at mamaroots and I had to smile : ) I also use glass canning jars to hold our drinks and snacks and I also sew drawstring pouches for snacks I love that you do too I had to stop over to let you know this similarity! Those veggies look absolutely gorgeous, beautiful onions! how lovely you are able to harvest so much and that it is for a good cause. I sell flowers at our farmers market and the proceeds all go to the local food kitchen. It seems like there are many things that can be done like this from our own gardens even when money gets tight there are always ways to share the harvest : )

  • I’m having fun with my first veggie garden attempt. Still learning how much of what to plant to find the balance between having a handful of each thing and having a glut.
    Right now I’m harvesting green beans, cucumbers, zucchini, broccoli and sungold cherry tomatoes

  • We’re harvesting tomato, cucumber, mint, sage, and a variety of other herbs . . . a small garden behind our town hosue.
